First Orientation
Fifteen foreign students that are being hosted by clubs in our District as well as four from District 7510 in neighboring New Jersey met for the first time in Wernersville PA at Camp Conrad Weiser last Friday thru Sunday. They were greeted by the District Committee on Friday night and partook in their first Weenie Roast. Orientation began first thing Saturday Morning after which District Governor Ron and wife Patti presented them with gifts from the Governor. Saturday night was capped off with an all American Square dance.
Sunday after a short service in the camp’s outdoor chapel, and international softball game took place with the help of some of the host siblings that have arrived. An orientation for host famies and club counselors took place while the game was played. I would like to mention that fine dinning was the order of the weekend but it was camp food. Lack of sleep was the more prevalent than mosquito bites.
Last One Standing
Really, the last District Outbound student to leave the country for his year away was Tiago Moura of Bethlehem. Tiago is now in France but didn’t leave until Labor Day Weekend. His paperwork at the travel agency was misdirected but was finally processed in time for him to start school on Labor Day(note to self, not a holiday in France). Here’s a picture of Tiago with Mom and Dad at the airport.
Outbound Applications Due by November 1
Outbound applications are now being accepted by the district committee. Application can be downloaded from the website by clicking here. Download Center Any club needing direction on starting an outbound Rotary Youth Exchange Program should contact John Brady.
Second Inbound Orientation October 13-15
Inbound students will meet again at Camp Olivet in Hamburg PA. This meeting will give the committee time to meet with each student individually and collectively to identify problems or just to check on the wellbeing of the student. Rotex(former exchange students) are encouraged to come to this meeting to help with the orientation. The highlight of the weekend is a hike on nearby Hawk Mountain. The 4 mile trip down and back up the mountain always brings out the best in the committee, at least the ones that survive. Rotex that wish to come should contact Sarah Huskin.
